Young Horses
Wendy loves to work with young horses, and to judge Young Dressage Horse competitions. She has attended Young Dressage Horse Seminars in New Zealand, the UK and Australia with elite FEI judges including Mary Seefried, Suzie Hoevenaars and Stephen Clarke.
Attending the Bundeschampionat in Warendorf, Germany, Wendy and John liked the shift in emphasis to reward a more natural way of riding Young Dressage Horses in competitions.
‘Not everyone appreciates the skills that are needed to train young horses, but I do enjoy helping them to find good rhythm and balance. Bringing young horses along is very different from riding horses which are fairly secure in their training’.
Lizzie - ‘I was running into a few problems with my young horse, as I have mostly ridden horses that have already had a bit of education. I took her to Wendy and she has been great, my mare is now going beautifully, she knows the issues that come up with young horses so well, and she really enjoys getting them going in the right way.’
Wendy has started the training of most of her horses as youngsters, a number of Warmbloods, including several she and John bred at Ellis Brook, Thoroughbreds, Anglos, and a variety of horses of different backgrounds.
